brand new course and more emphasis on the 'up'. The race
will be open to participants of all abilities on randonee,
telemark, or splitboard gear. The course will cover roughly
10-12 miles of fun, variable backcountry terrain, with 3-4000
feet of elevation gain spread over multiple climbs and descents.
This will be a self-supported event, and racers must carry
functioning avalanche rescue gear (beacon, probe, and shovel).
Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female
finishers. The entry fee is $30, with snacks and refreshments

We want to thank those who came out and participated in
the 2nd NU Fun Race of the year. We know how slow the conditions
were and how the new snow affected the striding during this
classic technique race! Great job for sticking (no pun intended)
it out and finishing! We have decided to move the next race
on Sunday, Feb. 7 to the Beaver Bottoms ski trails. See
above race schedule for time, cost, etc.. Thanks again for
your support for cross-country skiing here in Cache Valley!

Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival at the
Taggart Student Center Auditorium on the USU Campus. The
films highlight the fun and magic of winter recreation through
compelling and entertaining stories of backcountry, non-motorized
recreation and environmental preservation. Nordic United
is a group member of Winter Wildlands Alliance, who produces
the festival, and whose aim is to ensure a safe, quiet,
tranquil experience for every winter wildlands adventurer,
now and always.

Women's Day in the Backcountry
On January 23 join Sara Goeking and Becca Scully for an
all women's backcountry adventure. Location will depend
on avalanche conditions and interest. The plan is to go
out for a nice tour and make some turns. This is informal
way of getting out and enjoying what the Bear Rivers have
to offer, meeting other women interested in Backcountry
skiing and split boarding, and having fun. All abilities
are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

Utah Special Olympics - Logan
When: February 27, Time - TBD
Where: Beaver Bottoms
On February 27, the Northern Utah Regional Special Olympics
winter events will return to the groomed trails at Beaver
Bottoms. Events include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing,
with individual and relay categories. We need several volunteers
to help set up the course, assist at start/finish lines,
and provide general assistance to competitors and coaches.
Volunteering with the Special Olympics is a great way to
help more people experience the joys of skiing and snowshoeing.
