Groomed Trails

Nordic United is collaborating with the City of North Logan, the Forest Service, and the State of Utah to groom Nordic trails in Cache County. Maintaing these trails takes time and money - if you use and enjoy these trails, please consider volunteering with and/or donating to NU so that we can continue to provide and ensure that there are groomed trails in Cache Valley!

Green Canyon: From Logan, go to the intersection of 1900 North and 1600 East. From there, head east on 1900 North for about a mile, where you'll find a parking area with restroom facilities and trailhead. Nordic United volunteers, groomers paid by Nordic United, and the City of North Logan will groom the trail several times per week during the 2010-2011 season. Distance and elevation chart:

Landmark Distance
(miles)
Elevation
(ft)
TH gate 0 5,160
2nd gate 1.2 5,465
Preston Valley TH (on South) 1.9 5,670
USU Green Canyon yurt 3.9 6,160

Sink Hollow/Beaver Bottoms: From Logan, travel east on Hwy 89 about 25 miles to the Beaver Mountain turnoff (0.8 miles past milepost 486). Turn left here and go about 1/2 mile, where you'll find parking for both Beaver Bottoms groomed track (across the road to the west) and the Sink Hollow trail (to the north). Click here to download a trail map (pdf). During the 2010-2011 season, Nordic United will arrange to have the Beaver Bottoms trail groomed several times primarily in advance of GenXC and other cross-country ski events. Check the event schedule and grooming report for details.

Other groomed trails: For years many skiers in Cache Valley have also taken advantage of grooming on National Forest roads, which is done by Utah and Idaho State Parks for snowmobile use. The time to skate on these trails is early in the morning after the groomer is finished but before the snowmobilers are out. Links for grooming schedules and reports.

Backcountry Trails

There are far too many opportunities for backcountry skiing in the Bear River and Wellsville Ranges to list them all here. We recommend that you inquire at the local gear shops and the USU Outdoor Rec Center, or simply ask anyone who you see in the backcountry (we're all pretty friendly here!).

Bunchgrass: From Logan, travel east on Hwy 89 for about 20 miles. Just past the turnoff for Tony Grove Lake, near milepost 481, you'll find ample parking on the right. An ungroomed backcountry trail leads several miles up the drainage to the west (across the highway).
