Forest Service Winter Recreation Fees
Fee Program Information
In winter of 2024 the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) implemented a program requiring a parking fee at recreational trailheads commonly used by the Nordic United community (specifically Green Canyon and Smithfield Canyon winter trailheads).
The fees are expected to help the USFS with maintenance and improvement of winter recreation sites in the Uinta Wasatch Cache national forest. Parking Fees are as follows:

Statement From The Board on USFS Fee Changes
Nordic United is dedicated to supporting non-motorized winter recreation and enhancing the winter experience for enthusiasts across Cache Valley. We are aware of the recently announced U.S. Forest Service (USFS) recreation area fee program, which includes parking fees at several popular trailheads in the Logan Ranger District including Green Canyon and Smithfield Canyon.
While we support the USFS's decision to implement these winter-access fees, we want to clarify that, as a nonprofit organization, we do not profit from this program. Nordic United does not receive direct funding from the USFS, nor are we involved in the creation or allocation of these fees. Our work continues to rely entirely on the generous support and donations from our members and community partners like you.
We understand that parking fees may be frustrating, and we empathize with concerns about the financial impact. However, we remain committed to our mission of promoting non-motorized winter recreation and maintaining high-quality trail systems for all users.
If you have questions about the new fee program, please contact the Logan Ranger District directly at (435) 755-3620 or visit the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest website for more information.
Nordic United is committed to working with our partners and the community to navigate these changes and continue fostering an inclusive and accessible winter recreation environment.
